On Having More Kids

Recently Ryan and I have been getting asked a LOT about when we will have more babies or how many babies we wanted. Before I had Dominick or even became pregnant I always wanted a big family. I loved the idea of having lots of kids and chaos. I just thought it would be so fun. Then I got pregnant and I knew I would NEVER want to be pregnant FOUR times (because when I say big family..I meant 4 kids). So I scaled it back to three. Well, I'm pretty sure in my first trimester I told one of our friends that I don't know why anyone would ever TRY to get pregnant because I was feeling that sick.
Now that we have Dominick and I went through the whole process we are ok with only having one baby. I'm not sure I was made to be a mom of more than one. I love Dominick with my whole heart and I just can't imagine loving another baby the way that I love him. I love that he's relatively an easy baby, that he's happy, that Ryan and I out number him and that it's easy to go places. We have a routine and I'm not saying that being a parent to him has been cake, because it hasn't but he hasn't made it terrible either. I love knowing that sleeping through the night and no more diapers are going to come.
Not to mention our family of three feels complete and ya know what they say...why fix something that isn't broken? We are happy with how things are. I love that if I need to I can devote all of my time and attention to Dominick, that I can show him how special and important he is, that he doesn't have to share any of his time with a sibling and that he doesn't have to compete. To me that makes my heart happy.

We are happy with one baby. Ryan is 98% sure that he would be ok with not having any more kids. I'm only 90%. While I have listed all those pros, I don't want Dominick to have only child syndrome. Also, being a child in the military things always change, we are destined to move and with that being said him having a sibling would be a constant...a constant friend and confident. Someone he can go through life with knowing that he/she is there with him no matter what and they'll be able to cling to each other. I also think that he might get lonely with no siblings. AND I never thought I could or would love Dominick as much as I do so I'm sure I COULD love another baby equally.

So the answer this question is maybe someday. Ryan has big (always changing) plans for his AF career and depending on what happens within the next few years will decide if AND when we have any more kids (unless God of course has other plans for us). In the meantime, let us enjoy parenthood and our ONE child...he is ONLY {almost} 6 months!

A Typical Day

I want to remember EVERYTHING with Dominick and I wish (or maybe I did, but can't remember) I would have done this when he was a newborn, but alas now that he's almost 6 months I will start. I'm not sure we have typical days anymore, but here is what a work day usually looks like for us.

5:30-6:20ish - I start my day, eat breakfast and finish packing bags and loading the car.
6:20-7:00 - Dominick wakes up. I feed him, get him ready for his day and we also do some playing before we have to leave. Sometimes he'll wake up earlier and I'll put him in our bed with some toys. Mornings are his happiest time of the day so he will just play and jabber.
7:05 - We leave the house. I take him to his babysitters where he stays while I'm at work.
7:30-4:00 - I am at work. Very rarely will I leave for lunch, but I have gone to see Dom and sometimes will meet a friend or Ryan for lunch. Ryan works 7:00-4:00 and has an hour lunch which 9/10 times he will go home.
4:10 - I pick up Dominick and we go home. As soon as we get home I will feed him.
4:30 - Ryan is normally home by 4:30 every day and normally before. When he gets home I start dinner and Ryan spends time with Dominick.
5:00 - I will normally try to get Dominick to drink a little more before he gets his "meal". He gets a vegetable and a fruit every night. A lot of times we do pouches (since they normally already consist of a vegetable and a fruit) where he'll get half, but sometimes we do jars and he'll only get a third from the vegetable and between 1/4-1/3 of fruit. Sometimes he won't eat at all, but most nights he will eat everything we give him.
6:00/6:30 - we eat dinner. Sometimes before, but we never eat much later than this.
this picture is so funny to me because he has SO many toys in front of him. He will play with them all and he loves the music. HA!
6:00-7:15 - Family time. We will play, read, and cuddle. I also will feed Dominick again before we start bedtime routine. During this time and dinner time Ryan and I catch up on each others days too. It's my favorite time of the day.
7:15-8:00 - Bedtime routine. Dominick only gets a bath every other night (due to his eczema, it's not horrible, but he can't have baths every day anymore). I lotion him up which takes such a long time since we use a special cream on his eczema spots, aquafor on his body and aveeno on his face and hands (we do this every night regardless of bath or not). After bathtime he gets a story read to him and fed one more time. He is always ready for bed by 8:00. Most nights it's a struggle to even keep him up til 8. I don't like him going to bed much before because then he gets up earlier. We normally follow his cues and we don't like to fight too much with him. If he's REALLY tired we put him to bed early, sometimes during our dinner he'll go down for a cat nap and sometimes he will just want to go to bed at 7:30 and there's no stopping him.

*Ryan will go to the gym a lot after dinner and when I start getting Dominick ready for his bath. Sometimes, he'll go after Dominick is sleeping so he can read him his book. It just all depends.

8:00-10:00 - We pick up the house, sweep, do laundry, clean up from dinner, pack our stuff for the next day (this is mostly just me. I get Dominick's bag ready, if I need to take milk I pack this in a cooler bag so it's ready to go in the morning, pack my lunch, clean my water bottles, set out both of our clothes, clean/sterilize pump parts and bottles). Ryan is studying for SSgt right now so he spends at least an hour studying since he's only in the beginning stages and he is also taking 2 classes so he'll write papers or discussion questions. This is also our time where we will watch TV, play on our phones and relax for a little while as well.
10:00-11:00 - we try to be in bed by 10, but most nights it's not until 10:30 or 11:00.

+Dominick eats so much from 4-8 because during the day he only eats around 7-10 oz. He gets a bottle at 9 and a bottle around 1 and he only eats 3.5 oz from each even though each "packet" is 5 oz. I asked our doctor why and if I should be worried; he said some babies will eat less when they have to take a bottle when they are breastfed and more when they are with their mommas. We do a lot of cluster feedings at night. He doesn't have a problem taking a bottle, but will eat just enough to get by.

+Dominick NORMALLY wakes up once or twice during the night. I try to give him his pacifier and he will go back to sleep. If he wants to eat then I bring him to bed. We don't do the cry it out method at our house because we both work and to us we need to sleep. We know that he will EVENTUALLY sleep through the night on his own, but until then we just bring him to bed and I'll feed him or sometimes he just goes right back to sleep. To US we have enough going on with Ryan testing for a promotion soon, school and both of us working it's not worth fighting to get him to sleep all night. That's just us. We've had a lot of people tell us that a couple horrible nights of sleep is worth a million nights of uninterupted, but we just don't care to try. We are all doing well with what we're doing now.

+We live for the weekends together. Sundays are almost always spent meal planning, grocery shopping, doing chores around the house that we've neglected during the week (which is a lot) and prepping for the week. Saturdays we are almost never home. We run errands or do our day trips this day so we have Sundays to "recover".

+On the weekends I like Dominick to nap around 9 and then again around 1:00, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. I like him getting at least 2 naps a day, so if it's not at 9 and 1 I'm okay as long as there are two squeezed in somewhere.

Dear...

Dear Friday, I am so glad that you are here. I welcome you with open arms. We are going to play BINGO tonight and I'm far too excited for a 24 year old. Dear Dominick, can you not grow up so fast? You're not even 6 months old and last night you did more than just rock back and forth while you were on all fours. I love watching you grow and your personality blossom, but my momma heart is begging for time to stand still. And I am pretty sure I found you the cutest little Easter basket! It's one you can use for a long time. P.S. I love you! Dear Mother Nature, I know that February is the coldest month in the AV but I was really enjoying those 70 degree days. Can we go back to that? Dear Antelope Valley, you can still drive if it snows and snow is NOT the end of the world. You do not have to put chains on your car for a couple of inches of snow, call in from work or get all riled up over a little white powder dusting...just saying. Dear Ryan, you make my heart happy. You are a great husband and my best friend. I love that you love me even though I'm a little weird and a lot silly. You are my favorite! p.s. I love you.Dear Girl Scouts, I seriously hope I do not know any of you next year. My husband and I like your cookies a little too much. Dear Michigan, I miss you. I can't wait to be back in your arms, however it won't be for a few {long} months. Dear Birthday, I am looking forward to you. 24 has been my favorite year yet with welcoming our sweet boy, 25, I hope you are equally as amazing. Dear Kenny Chesney,  I will be attending your concert this summer in Anaheim with a couple of my favorite girls in California. . Please do no disappoint, however you have never in the past so I can't imagine you would this year. Dear Family and Friends, we miss you! Dear Dominick, you slept from 8:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. last night with no interuptions. I could definitely get used to this. Dear Ryan, staying up for an hour in bed to play ruzzle this week has been a horrible idea. If we are going to keep this up we need to go to bed at 9, not 10. I think you agree since every morning at 5:30 when our alarms go off we both moan and groan about how we are so tired.

6&7/52

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."
Week 6 - Eating rice cereal for the 1st time (on his 5 month birthday)
Week 7 - 1st Valentine's Day

Hollywood

Last Sunday Ryan received a phone call from a friend asking if we wanted to go hiking the upcoming weekend to the Hollywood sign. Ryan of course said yes. So on Saturday we all got ready and off we went. It was the most perfect day with a little breeze and I think the temperatures were in the low 80s. Seriously perfect. Poor Ryan had to push the stroller pretty much the whole way, but we have great friends who also offered to help push along the way.

The views were amazing and we all felt really accomplished once we got there...until we realized we had to go back down the mountain (just kidding...kind of) I think it took us around 3 hours total. Dominick did so well; he mostly talked the whole way and the last 30 minutes he passed out. I think he loved the outdoors just as much as the rest of us.

After we were done we headed to Koreatown and went to an amazing Korean BBQ restaurant. It was a great day with great friends. All of these pictures were taken by one of my friends who had my camera. :)

Valentine's Day

Ryan and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day. To be honest I'm not even sure if we said Happy Valentine's Day to each other. Most years we spend like any other day, but that doesn't mean we don't want to show Dominick that we love each other or give him something special on this day.

Dominick got a "fancy" new shirt and I made him a couple no sew blankets since he's just been using ours. He loved them so much that he smiled his little gummy smile and then put his face in them with delight. Neither Ryan or I felt like cooking so we went to our favorite "hole in the wall" Mexican restaurant. Our little man had a banana in his mesh bag and we had dinner. We had a great day!

Rice Cereal

At Dominick's 4 month well baby the doctor told me I could start Dominick on rice cereal. I was a little hesitant on starting it during month 4, so since his 5 month "birthday" was in a mere two weeks we decided to wait. Yesterday he turned 5 months old and he tried his first bit. Everyone said it could make him really constipated since it was all so new so to start out slow. We are indeed since there is no rush...he is a tank as it is and is growing perfectly fine without it (although it's very necessary for him to start).

He took it like a champ and devoured the entire bowl (I say that like it was a lot). We gave hime 1/2 tbls rice and 2 oz breastmilk. Looking at these pictures I think he liked it...what do you think?
I think these two will be best friends in no time. ;o)

You didn't have a good sleeping month. You were up quite a bit and you have wanted to cut back on napping. You only nap twice a day as it is so I don't think you're ready to cut one out just yet.

Dominick,
How in the world are you already 5 months old baby boy? This month has definitely been a busy one and a very fun one. It seems like so long ago since I've wrote your 4 month post, but at the same time it seems like just yesterday that you turned 4 months. I so wish that you would stay this way forever. You are the sweetest, happiest, easy going baby. I only wish I could put your sweet personality into words because I want to remember you right now forever.

This month has a big one as far as milestones. You went to your first bowl game (The Rose Bowl). It was a beautiful day and even though we didn't stay long it's cool to say you were able to do that. You also went on your first trip to Las Vegas and were SO good that whole trip (even though it was just one night, we were on the go the whole time). When we were in Vegas you found your tongue and had it out almost the whole trip (1/5/13). You also learned how to blow raspberries (1/6/13) and now if I have a cami on or you find bare skin on anyone you blow raspberries. We moved you to a convertible car seat (1/4/13) and you love it. Your Grandma and Grandpa went back to Michigan and we were all really bummed (1/5/13).
This month you really have grown so much. You love to play peek a boo. You just wait and wait until we pull the burp cloth off your face or peek around something at you. You will laugh and laugh. You can grab what you want and you now reach for things if we hand them to you. Changing you has become more of a challenge because you're constantly looking around to see what you can grab. We can sit you up in one room with some toys and come back and you'll still be sitting up. I'm sure there are more things that I'm forgetting, but you've grown so much. If you are laying on your back we will grab your hands and you'll pull yourself up (with help), not to sit up, but to stand. You love being able to look around.

You are such a good baby, even when you refuse to nap, you still are so happy. I cannot even begin to tell you how many people love and adore you. When we go places our friends always want to see you and play with you. You have quite a few friends too and it's so fun watching you grow up with these little boys. I bet if we were to all stay here you would be the best of friends. That's one thing that really makes me sad about us moving, but it's part of the life we live so we'll embrace it. You will have lots of friends all over the place.

Like I said above, you haven't really been sleeping well. We've started putting you in your pack n play at night time and then when you wake up I'll bring you to bed and that's where you stay for most of the night. Between 8-8:30 you are READY for bed (especially on the nights that I work).
Baby Man, you are so fun! I can't imagine my days without you or before you. I love that your little personality is really starting to come out. You make our days happier, more fun and our lives so complete. We are so blessed to be your parents and I just can't wait to see what's to come. I cannot believe that next month you will already be a half a year old. I get so sad some days knowing that you are CONSTANTLY growing and I just wish time would stand still, but I love that you are thriving so much. I couldn't ask for more.

I love you to the moon and back times infinity,
Momma
