Dominick's First Camping Trip - Point Mugu, CA

Columbus Day weekend was spent taking Dominick on his first camping trip. Some of our friends went to Pt. Mugu earlier in the year and had a great time. We had been looking for someplace to go camping all summer (or maybe an excuse) and we finally had one. I'm not really sure who invited who, but we thought this particular weekend would be a good one and it was a GREAT time.

We left on Saturday morning and only stayed one night, but it was COLD so I'm pretty sure the one night was more than good enough. We didn't get there until around 1:30 and we set up the tents, unloaded the cars and we were ready to go. As soon as you get off the exit there is a really big outlet mall so naturally the girls took the babies and went shopping while the boys (Ryan, I and J (who is almost 5) went to the beach and flew kites. After a quick stop to Target and the outlets we arrived back to the campsite around 7:30 and had dinner (carne asada). All the food was super good. We brought Dominick's pack n play and set it up in the tent. He was all snuggly and warm and went to bed right around 8. After the babies were in bed we roasted marshmallows and had s'mores, stayed up late and hung out around the bonfire.

Sunday morning we got up, had breakfast and walked down to the beach. We played in the sand and watched the sea lions swim by, they were super cute and they just kept swimming by. There is a lagoon on the other side of the camping area that's for the sea lions so we saw many over the two days we were there. After playing in the sand and flying kites we decided it was probably time to start loading up the cars. We picked up our areas, took showers and drove down the Pacific Coast Hwy to Santa Monica. Can I just say it was seriously beautiful? The views are incredibly breathtaking.

Once we arrived in Santa Monica we went to have lunch, walk around the promenade and the mall and down to the pier. We grabbed some ice cream and made our way down to Venice. It was getting late by this time and we walked back in the dark. By the time we got back it was quite chilly, but the perfect day all in all.

Our Columbus Day weekend was one for the books and I'm so glad that we got to experience it all with great friends. As much as we can't wait to PCS, California truly has some absolutely beautiful scenery and everything you could ever want (beach, mountains, desert) and we've made some wonderful memories here. When the time comes for us to leave I know I will really be sad to leave.
